Nick Carroll: WSL Adds a Fourth CT To Australia in 2021?

The World Surf League is considering running a fourth CT event in Australia some time in the next couple of months, Surfline understands.
The event would be a double header and would fit in around the current three events — Bells (Apr 1-11), Margaret River (Apr 16-26) and Snapper Rocks (May 3-13). It’s likely the event will take place in NSW, specifically Sydney, though we cannot confirm that just yet.
It would become part of an Australian CT “bubble” off the back of the CT pros clearing quarantine and thus being able to remain and surf freely in the relative stability of Australia.
It would also allow the WSL to regain some ground after the cancellation and postponement of two CTs this year, one at Sunset Beach and one at Santa Cruz.
Normal CT licensing protocol would work against another CT in Australian waters, but these are not normal times.
The WSL were unable to confirm the status of the fourth CT, but did provide us with this statement: “The World Surf League is working closely with the Australian Government and respective State Governments and continues to have positive conversations regarding the locations for the upcoming Australian leg of the Championship Tour (CT). We are currently discussing multiple options to be best prepared to get the CT back on and running. We will share more information in the near future.”
We’ll keep reporting details as they come to hand.
